Average price of white pan bread rises 4c per lb

WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread rose 4c a lb in April, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. The price of whole wheat bread, meanwhile, eased 1.7c after two consecutive months of gains.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 120.1c, according to the B.L.S. The April price for white pan bread increased 12.9c compared with April 2006. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread increased in all regions, rising 0.9c in the Northeast, 5.6c in the Midwest, 2.6c in the South and climbing 9.1c in the West.
The national average price for whole wheat bread fell to 163.7c. Year over year, the national average price of whole wheat bread was up 26.7c.
The national average price of family flour in April was 35.4c per lb, down 0.3c from March but up 3.4c from April 2006.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in April was 92.8c per lb, up 1.8c from March and up 9.1c from April 2006. Chocolate chip cookies were 268.1c per lb, up 0.3c from March and up 7.3c from April 2006.
