Pork and butter cold storage stocks up

WASHINGTON — Frozen stocks of pork and butter in warehouses on June 30 were greater than year earlier levels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its July 20 Cold Storage report (click here to read report).

Total butter stocks were 275,276,000 lbs, which was up 2% from last month and up 5% from last year. Total natural cheese stocks were 875,954,000 lbs, which was equal to last month’s and last year’s levels.

Frozen stocks of egg whites were 3,092,000 lbs, up 4% from last year and 1% from last month. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 1,057,000 lbs, down 8% compared with the previous year, and whole and mixed eggs stocks came in at 7,192,000 lbs, down 48% compared with the previous year.

Total chicken stocks were 647,675,000 lbs, down 17% from last year but up 7% from the previous month. Total turkey stocks were 442,691,000 lbs, down 13% from last year, but up 11% from the previous month. Overall, total frozen poultry supplies were 1,098,127,000, up 9% from the previous month but down 15% from last year.

Total red meat in freezers was 922,688,000 lbs, up 5% from last year. Total frozen beef stocks came in at 431,344,000 lbs, which was down 4% from last year. Total stocks of pork bellies were 47,661,000 lbs, up 3% from last year. At 470,100,000 lbs, total frozen pork supplies were down 4% from last month but up 14% from last year.

In other stocks, there were 645,914,000 lbs of apples, which was up 2% from last year. Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate were 909,772,000 lbs, down 18% from last year. Stocks of French fries were 862,282,000 lbs, down 2% from last year.
