August egg product output up 2% from year ago

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in August was 237,814,000 lbs, up 2% from a year ago and up 11% from July, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report (click here for report).
August production of edible whole eggs was 152,767,000 lbs, up 3% from August 2006; liquid whites 55,643,000 lbs, down 2%; and liquid yolks 29,404,000 lbs, up 3%.
Shell eggs broken in August totaled 184,884,000 dozen, up 1% from August 2006 and up 11% from July 2007, the U.S.D.A. said.
For the January-August period of 2007, shell eggs broken totaled 1,332,678,000 dozen, down 2% from the same period in 2006, the U.S.D.A. said. Edible liquid whole egg production for the period was 1,107,560,000 lbs, down 1% from last year; whites 413,181,000 lbs, down 2%; and yolks 220,294,000 lbs, down 4%. Production of inedible liquid was 152,673,000 lbs for the year through August, up 1% from a year ago.
