September egg product output down 1% from 2006

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in September was 214,129,000 lbs, down 1% from a year ago and down 10% from August 2007, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report (click here for report).
September production of edible whole eggs was 141,303,000 lbs, nearly equal to September 2006; liquid whites 47,228,000 lbs, down 6%; and liquid yolks 25,598,000 lbs, also nearly equal to September 2006 levels.
Shell eggs broken in September totaled 164,808,000 dozen, down 1% from September 2006 and down 11% from August 2007, the U.S.D.A. said.
For the January-September period of 2007, shell eggs broken totaled 1,497,216,000 dozen, down 2% from the same period in 2006, the U.S.D.A. said. Edible liquid whole egg production for the period was 1,248,863,000 lbs, down 1% from last year; whites 460,209,000 lbs, down 3%; and yolks 245,892,000 lbs, down 4%. Total edible liquid produced in the first nine months of 2007 was 1,954,964,000 lbs, down 2% from a year earlier. Production of inedible liquid was 170,925,000 lbs for the year through September, up 1% from a year ago.
