August egg product up 1% from 2009

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in August was 224,858,000 lbs, down 3% from July but up 1% from a year ago, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.
August production of edible whole eggs was 145,806,000 lbs, up 5% from August 2009; liquid whites were 53,195,000 lbs, down 2%; liquid yolks were 25,857,000 lbs, down 10%; and inedible product was 19,497,000 lbs, up 4%.
Edible liquid product produced during the January-August period was 1,766,048,000 lbs, up 2% from the same period of the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 1,114,263,000 lbs, up 2%; liquid whites were 436,808,000 lbs, up 3%; liquid yolks were 214,977,000 lbs, down 1%; and inedible product was 153,229,000 lbs, up 4%.
Shell eggs broke in August totaled 176,530,000 dozen, down 2% from July but up 3% from the previous year. Shell eggs broken in the January-August period totaled 1,358,803,000 dozen, up 2% from the same period of the previous year.
