November chicken, cheese, egg, beef stocks up

WASHINGTON — Chicken, egg, cheese and beef stocks in freezers on Nov. 30 were higher than year-earlier levels, but butter, pork and turkey stocks were lower, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Cold Storage report.

Total chicken stocks on Nov. 30 were 767,392,000 lbs, up 4% from October and up 16% from November 2009, the U.S.D.A. said. Frozen turkey stocks totaled 175,845,000 lbs, down 57% from October and down 28% from November 2009. Total frozen poultry supplies were 946,235,000 lbs, down 18% from October but up 4% from year-ago levels, the U.S.D.A. said.

Frozen pork stocks on Nov. 30 totaled 469,421,000 lbs, down 3% from both October 2010 and from November 2009. Frozen pork belly stocks were 37,695,000 lbs, up 62% from October but down 16% from November 2009. Beef stocks in freezers totaled 440,960,000 lbs, up 6% from October and up 2% from November 2009. Total frozen red meat supplies were 932,576,000 lbs, up 2% from October but down slightly from the previous year.

Natural cheese stocks on Nov. 30 totaled 1,006,276,000 lbs, down 3% from October but up 5% from last year. Nov. 30 butter stocks were 70,023,000 lbs, down 36% from October and down 51% from November 2009.

Total frozen egg stocks at the end of November were 22,790,000 lbs, down 11% from October but up 8% from November 2009. Stocks of egg whites were 2,633,000 lbs, down 22% from October but up 44% from November 2009. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 846,000 lbs, up 17% from October and up 16% from the previous year. Whole and mixed egg stocks came in at 5,780,000 lbs, down 28% from October and down 2% from November 2009. Unclassified egg stocks totaled 13,531,000 lbs, up slightly from October and up 6% from November 2009.

Frozen vegetable stocks totaled 2,516,453,000 lbs, down 4% from October and down 3% from November 2009. Stocks of frozen French fries were 913,558,000 lbs, up slightly from October and up 2% from November 2009.

Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate on Nov. 30 were 795,672,000 lbs, down 12% from October and down 29% from November 2009. Stocks of all types of frozen fruit on Nov. 30 totaled 1,259,892,000 lbs, down 6% from October and down 12% from the previous year.

Fresh apples in regular and controlled storage on Nov. 30 totaled 5,269,581,000 lbs, down 7% from October and down 6% from the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said.
