December egg product output up 5% from 2008

WASHINGTON — The total amount of liquid product from shell eggs broken in December was 219,590,000 lbs, up 12% from November and up 5% from the previous year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.

December production of edible whole eggs was 139,362,000 lbs, up 2% from the previous year; liquid whites were 53,365,000 lbs, up 10%; liquid yolks were 26,863,000 lbs, up 7%; and inedible product was 18,764,000, up 4%.

Edible liquid product produced during 2009 was 2,599,829,000 lbs, down 3% from the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 1,654,938,000 lbs, down 3%; liquid whites were 624,557,000 lbs, down 1%; liquid yolks were 320,334,000 lbs, down 4%; and inedible product was 219,536,000 lbs, down 5%.

Shell eggs broken in December totaled 168,628,000 dozen, up 4% from the previous year and up 12% from November 2009. Shell eggs broken in 2009 totaled 1,993,663,000 dozen, down 3% from the previous year.
