April egg product up 3% from 2009

WASHINGTON — The total amount of liquid product from shell eggs broken in April was 225,657,000 lbs, up 5% from March and up 3% from a year ago, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.

April production of edible whole eggs was 141,071,000 lbs, up 5% from April 2009; liquid whites were 56,463,000 lbs, up 3%; liquid yolks were 28,123,000 lbs, down slightly; and inedible product was 19,403,000 lbs, up 5%.

Edible liquid product produced during the January-April period was 841,883,000 lbs, up 1% from the same period of the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 532,271,000 lbs, down slightly from a year earlier; liquid whites were 205,950,000 lbs, up 4%; liquid yolks were 103,662,000 lbs, up 1%; and inedible product was 74,349,000 lbs, up 4%.

Shell eggs broken in April totaled 172,023,000 dozen, up 4% from both the previous year and from March 2010. Shell eggs broken in the January–April period totaled 645,579,000 dozen, up 1% from the same period of the previous year.
