March egg product output up 1% from 2009

WASHINGTON — The total amount of liquid product from shell eggs broken in March was 214,586,000 lbs, up 9% from February and up 1% from a year ago, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.
March production of edible whole eggs was 140,085,000 lbs, up slightly from March 2009; liquid whites were 49,232,000 lbs, up 3%; liquid yolks were 25,269,000 lbs, up 2%; and inedible product was 19,415,000 lbs, up 9%.
Edible liquid product produced during the January–March period was 616,226,000 lbs, down slightly from the same period last year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 391,200,000 lbs, down 2%; liquid whites were 149,487,000 lbs, up 4%; liquid yolks were 75,539,000 lbs, up 1%; and inedible product was 54,946,000 lbs, up 4%.
Shell eggs broken in March totaled 165,117,000 dozen, up 3% from the previous year and up 10% from February 2010. Shell eggs broken in the first quarter totaled 473,556,000 dozen, up 1% from the previous year.
