June egg product up 4% from 2009

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in June was 242,341,000 lbs, up 7% from May and up 4% from a year ago, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.

June production of edible whole eggs was 146,582,000 lbs, up 1% from June 2009; liquid whites were 64,897,000 lbs, up 11%; liquid yolks were 30,862,000 lbs, up 3%; and inedible product was 20,846,000 lbs, up 8%.

Edible liquid product produced during the January-June period was 1,310,092,000 lbs, up 2% from the same period of the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 822,451,000 lbs, up 1%; liquid whites were 326,001,000 lbs, up 4%; liquid yolks were 161,640,000 lbs, up 1%; and inedible product was 114,578,000 lbs, up 5%.

Shell eggs broken in June totaled 186,176,000 dozen, up 8% from May and up 4% from the previous year. Shell eggs broken in the January-June period totaled 1,002,973,000 dozen, up 2% from the same period of the previous year.
