Turkey, butter, red meat stocks up

WASHINGTON — Turkey, butter and red meat stocks on Sept. 30 were higher than year-earlier levels, but chicken, cheese, and fruit and vegetable stocks were lower, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Cold Storage report.

Frozen turkey stocks were 515,375,000 lbs, down 2% from August but up 9% from September 2010. Total chicken stocks were 673,583,000 lbs, down 3% from August and down 5% from September 2010. Total frozen poultry stocks were 1,194,043,000 lbs, up slightly from 1,189,833,000 lbs during the previous year.

Natural cheese stocks on Sept. 30 were 1,040,022,000 lbs, down 2% from the previous month and previous year. Butter stocks totaled 151,106,000 lbs, down 9% from August but up 16% from September 2010.

Frozen red meat supplies were 944,544,000 lbs, up 5% from August and up 12% from September 2010. Frozen pork stocks totaled 490,713,000 lbs, up 11% from August and up 16% from September 2010. Frozen pork belly stocks were 9,255,000 lbs, down 39% from August but up 92% from the previous year. Beef stocks in freezers totaled 428,081,000 lbs, down slightly from 428,633,000 lbs in August but up 8% from September 2010.

Frozen egg stocks on Sept. 30 totaled 31,893,000 lbs, up 3% from August and up 22% from September 2010. Stocks of egg whites were 4,131,000 lbs, up 10% from August and up 17% from September 2010. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 1,167,000 lbs, down 10% from August but up 80% from the previous year. Whole and mixed egg stocks were 8,558,000 lbs, up 3% from August and up 2% from September 2010. Unclassified egg stocks were 18,037,000 lbs, up 2% from August and up 34% from September 2010.

Stocks of frozen french fries on Sept. 30 were 862,227,000 lbs, up 14% from August and up 1% from September 2010. Frozen vegetable stocks (excluding potatoes) totaled 2,366,665,000 lbs, up 19% from August but down 6% from September 2010.

Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate on Sept. 30, 2011, were 588,888,000 lbs, down 8% from August and down 43% from September 2010. Stocks of all types of frozen fruit on Sept. 30 were 1,059,418,000 lbs, up slightly from 1,058,546,000 lbs in August but down 5% from the previous year.
