May liquid egg products up 1% from year ago

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in May was 229,068,000 lbs, up 7% from April and up 1% from May 2010, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.

May production of edible liquid whole eggs was 134,171,000 lbs, down 7% from May 2010; liquid whites were 62,918,000 lbs, up 13%; liquid yolks were 31,979,000 lbs, up 18%; and inedible production was 18,715,000 lbs, down 4%.

Shell eggs broken in May totaled 175,135,000 dozen, up 7% from April and up 2% from the previous year.
January–May production of edible whole eggs was 671,015,000 lbs, down 1% from the same period a year ago; whites were 285,117,000 lbs, up 9%; yolks were 146,906,000 lbs, up 12%; inedible was 94,877,000 lbs, up 1%; and total edible liquid was 1,103,038,000 lbs, up 3%.

Shell eggs broken in the January–May period were 844,239,000 dozen, up 3% from the same period of 2010.
