June cheese, egg and meat stocks up from 2010

WASHINGTON — Cheese, poultry, egg and red meat stocks in freezers on July 31 were higher than year-earlier levels, but butter, fruit and vegetable stocks were lower, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Cold Storage report.

Natural cheese stocks on July 31 were 1,084,725,000 lbs, up 3% from 1,049,924,000 lbs in June and up 1% from 1,070,127,000 lbs in July 2010, the U.S.D.A. said. Butter stocks totaled 187,740,000 lbs, down 1% from June and down 3% from a year ago.

Total chicken stocks were 764,420,000 lbs, up 1% from June and up 14% from July 2010. Frozen turkey stocks totaled 524,918,000 lbs, up 3% from June and up 5% from July 2010. Total frozen poultry supplies were 1,295,429,000 lbs, up 2% from June and up 10% from July 2010.

Total frozen red meat supplies were 896,773,000 lbs, down 6% from June but up 11% from July 2010. Frozen pork stocks totaled 453,856,000 lbs, down 8% from June but up 16% from July 2010. Frozen pork belly stocks were 29,534,000 lbs, down 39% from June but up 38% from July 2010. Beef stocks in freezers totaled 418,060,000 lbs, down 3% from June but up 8% from July 2010.

Frozen egg stocks on July 31 totaled 33,894,000 lbs, up slightly from June and up 37% from July 2010. Stocks of egg whites were 3,318,000 lbs, down 17% from June and down 2% from July. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 2,494,000 lbs, down 19% from June but up 302% from July 2010 stocks of 620,000 lbs. Whole and mixed egg stocks were 8,712,000 lbs, up 26% from June and up 29% from July 2010. Unclassified egg stocks were 19,370,000 lbs, down 2% from June but up 39% from July 2010.

Stocks of frozen french fries on July 31 were 715,137,000 lbs, down 18% from June and down 14% from July 2010. Frozen vegetable stocks (excluding potatoes) totaled 1,658,538,000 lbs, up 12% from June but down 11% from July 2010.

Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate on July 31, 2011, were 730,694,000 lbs, down 8% from June and down 41% from July 2010. Stocks of all types of frozen fruit on July 31 were 958,501,000 lbs, up 22% from June but down 15% from the previous year.
