Butter, turkey, red meat stocks up from 2010

WASHINGTON — Butter, turkey, red meat and fruit stocks were higher than year-earlier levels but cheese, chicken and vegetable stocks were lower, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Cold Storage report.

Frozen turkey stocks totaled 205,679,000 lbs, up 6% from November and up 7% from December 2010. Total chicken stocks were 629,078,000 lbs, down 3% from November and down 22% from a year ago. Total frozen poultry stocks were 837,159,000 lbs, down 1% from November and down 16% from December 2010, the U.S.D.A. said.

Natural cheese stocks on Dec. 31 were 981,317,000 lbs, up 1% from November but down 6% from December 2010. Butter stocks totaled 105,180,000 lbs, up 12% from November and up 29% a year earlier.

Frozen red meat supplies were 952,610,000 lbs, down 1% from November but up 1% from December 2010. Frozen pork stocks totaled 481,673,000 lbs, down 3% from November but up 1% from December 2010. Frozen pork belly stocks were 41,122,000 lbs, up 55% from November but down 19% from December 2010. Beef stocks in freezers totaled 451,199,000 lbs, up 2% from November and up 1% from December 2010.

Frozen egg stocks on Dec. 31 were 36,045,000 lbs, up 9% from November and up 42% from December 2010. Stocks of egg whites were 3,259,000 lbs, down 17% from November but up 57% from December 2010. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 1,956,000 lbs, up 29% from November and up 85% from December 2010. Whole and mixed egg stocks were 10,256,000 lbs, up 16% from November and up 58% from December 2010. Unclassified egg stocks were 20,574,000 lbs, up 10% from November and up 31% from December 2010.

Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate on Dec. 31, 2011, were 633,693,000 lbs, up 32% from November but down 22% from December 2010. Stocks of all types of frozen fruit on Dec. 31 were 1,205,506,000 lbs, down 6% from November but up 3% from 2010.

Stocks of frozen french fries were 802,218,000 lbs, down 5% from November and down 2% from December 2010. Total frozen vegetable stocks (excluding potatoes) on Dec. 31 were 2,287,390,000 lbs, down 5% from November and down 3% from December 2010, the U.S.D.A. said.
