April egg product output down 6% from 2008

WASHINGTON — The total amount of liquid product from shell eggs broken in April was 218,051,000 lbs, up 3% from March 2009, but down 6% from the previous year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.
April production of edible whole eggs was 134,877,000 lbs, down 8% from the previous year; liquid whites were 55,032,000 lbs, down 1%; liquid yolks were 28,142,000 lbs, down 6%; and inedible products were 18,484,000 lbs, down 10%, the U.S.D.A. said.
Edible liquid product produced for the January–April period was 835,110,000 lbs, down 4% from the same period of the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 533,656,000 lbs, down 4%; liquid whites were 198,741,000 lbs, down 1%; liquid yolks were 102,713,000 lbs, down 5%; and inedible products were 71,279,000 lbs, down 8%.
Shell eggs broken in April totaled 165,825,000 dozen, down 6% from the previous year but up 3% from March 2009. Shell eggs broken in the January–April period totaled 636,998,000 dozen, down 4% from the same period of the previous year.
