August egg product output down 8% from year ago

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in August was 219,642,000 lbs, down 8% from a year ago and down 7% from July 2008, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report (click here to read report).
August production of edible whole eggs was 141,290,000 lbs, down 8% from a year ago; liquid whites were 51,606,000 lbs, down 7%; and liquid yolks were 26,746,000 lbs, down 9%.
Inedible product from shell eggs broken in August totaled 19,120,000 lbs, down 6% from August 2007.
Shell eggs broken in August totaled 170,424,000 dozen, down 8% from August 2007 and down 7% from July 2008, the U.S.D.A. said.
Edible liquid product produced in the January-August period totaled 1,777,731,000 lbs, up 2% from the same period of the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 1,127,427,000 lbs, up 2% from a year ago; liquid whites were 425,242,000 lbs, up 3%; liquid yolks were 255,062,000 lbs, up 2%; and inedible products were 154,950,000 lbs, also up 2%.
Shell eggs broken in the January-August period totaled 1,363,099,000 dozen, up 2% from a year ago.
