Average price of all wheat at $6.13 in November

WASHINGTON — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in November was $6.13 per bu, down 54c from $6.67 in October and down $1.26 from the November 2007 average of $7.39, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agricultural Prices report.

The national average price received for winter wheat in November was $5.34 a bu, down 71c from $6.05 in October and down $1.97 from $7.31 in November of 2007.

The average price for durum was $9.78 a bu, down $2.22 from $12 in October and down $1.92 from the November 2007 average of $11.70.

The average price for spring wheat other than durum was $6.75 a bu in November, down 51c from October and down 25c from $7 in November of 2007.

The average price received for rough rice was $17.30 per cwt in November, up 40c from $16.90 in October and $5.90 above the November 2007 average of $11.40.

The preliminary index of prices received for food grains was 216% of the 1990-92 base of 100, down 5.3% from the revised October index of 228 and 5.7% below the November 2007 index of 229.

The November index for feed grains was 174, down 9.8% from a revised 193 the previous month but 13% above the November 2007 index of 154. The average price paid to farmers for corn in November was $3.94 per bu, down 43c from $4.37 in October but up 50c from $3.44 in November 2007. Farmers received an average of $5.63 per cwt for grain sorghum in November, down $1.45 from $7.08 in October and down 63c from $6.26 in November 2007. The average price paid for oats in November was $2.37 per bu, down 88c from $3.25 in October and down 26c from $2.63 in November 2007.

The U.S.D.A. index for November prices received for oil-bearing crops was 170, down 2.3% from a revised 174 in October but 3.7% above the November 2007 index of 164. The national average price paid to farmers for soybeans was $9.20 per bu, down 74c from $9.94 in October and down 22c from $9.42 in November 2007.

The November index for dairy products was 133, down 2.2% from a revised 136 in October and down 21% from 168 in November 2007. The average price paid for manufacturing grade milk in November was $16.90 per cwt, down $1 from $17.90 in October and down $3.60 from $20.50 a year earlier.

The egg and poultry index was 147 in November, down 1.3% from 149 in October and unchanged from November 2007. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs was $1.03 per dozen in November, up 1c from $1.02 in October but down 23c from $1.26 in November 2007.
