Average price of all wheat at $8.28 in June

WASHINGTON — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in June was $8.28 per bu, down 59c from $8.87 in May but $3.25 above the June 2007 average of $5.03, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its June Agriculture Prices report (click here to read report).

The national average price received for winter wheat in June was $8 a bu, down 17c from $8.17 in May but $3 above the June 2007 average of $5.

The average price for durum was $12.10 a bu, down $1.40 from $13.50 in May but $6.61 above the June 2007 average of $5.49.

The price for spring wheat other than durum was $10.10, down 60c from $10.70 in May but $4.93 above the June 2007 average of $5.17.

The average price received for rough rice was $16.70 per cwt in June, up 60c from $16.10 in May and $6.70 above the June 2007 average of $10.

The preliminary index of prices received for food grains in June was 276% of the 1990-92 base of 100, down 2.5% from the revised May index of 283 but up 64% from 168 in June 2007.

The May index for feed grains was 250, up 10% from a revised 227 the previous month and 57% above the June 2007 index of 159. The average price paid by farmers for corn in June was $6.12 per bu, up 84c from $5.28 in May and up $2.59 from $3.53 in June 2007. Farmers received an average of $11.70 per cwt for grain sorghum in June, up $2.38 from $9.32 in May and up $5.59 from $6.11 in June 2007. The average price paid for oats in May was $3.64 a bu, up 1c from May and $1 above the year-ago level.

The U.S.D.A. index for June prices received for oil-bearing crops was 243, up 12% from a revised 217 in May and 80% above 135 in June 2007. The national average price paid to farmers for soybeans was $13.50 per bu, up $1.40 from $12.10 in May and up $5.99 from $7.51 in June 2007.

The June index for dairy products was 149, up 5.7% from a revised 141 last month but down 3.9% from 155 in June 2007. The average price paid for manufacturing grade milk in June was $19.50 per cwt, up 80c from $18.70 in May but down 30c from $19.80 in June 2007.

The poultry and egg index was 154 in June, up 3.4% from a revised 149 in May and 10% above 140 in June 2007. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs was $1.06 per dozen in June, up 19c from 87c in May and up 38c from 68c in June 2007.
