December egg product output down 3%

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in December was 205,958,000 lbs, down 3% from a year ago and down 1% from November 2007, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report (click here to read report.)
December production of edible liquid whole eggs was 137,277,000 lbs, down 3% from December 2006; liquid whites were 44,296,000 lbs, down 4%; and liquid yolks were 24,385,000 lbs, down 2%.
Shell eggs broken in December totaled 158,820,000 dozen, down 2% from December 2006 but about even with November 2007, the U.S.D.A. said.
For the year, shell eggs broken totaled 1,996,918,000 dozen, down 1% from 2006, the U.S.D.A. said. Edible liquid whole egg production in 2007 was 1,683,554,000 lbs, about equal to the previous year; whites were 601,655,000 lbs, down 2%; and yolks were 320,484,000 lbs, down 3%. Total edible liquid produced in 2007 was 2,605,693,000 lbs, down 1% from 2006. Production of inedible liquid for the year was 228,077,000 lbs, up 1% from 2006.
