February egg product output down 12% from January

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in February was 198,086,000 lbs, equal to a year ago but down 12% from January 2008, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report (click here to read report).

February production of edible liquid whole eggs was 127,397,000 lbs, up 4% from February 2007; liquid whites were 46,041,000 lbs, down 5%; and liquid yolks were 24,648,000 lbs, also down 5%.

Shell eggs broken in February totaled 151,502,000 dozen, up 1% from February 2007 but down 12% from January 2008, the U.S.D.A. said.

Inedible product from shell eggs broken in February totaled 18,153,000, up 5% from February 2007.
