January egg product output up 8%

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in January was 224,370,000 lbs, up 8% from a year ago and up 9% from December 2007, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report (click here to read report).

January production of edible liquid whole eggs was 145,572,000 lbs, up 9% from January 2007; liquid whites were 51,466,000 lbs, up 7%; and liquid yolks were 27,332,000 lbs, up 4%.

Shell eggs broken in January totaled 172,040,000 dozen, up 8% from January 2007 and December 2007, the U.S.D.A. said.

Inedible product from shell eggs broken in January totaled 20,229,000 lbs, up 5% from January 2007.
