July egg product output up 11% from year ago

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in July was 236,927,000 lbs, up 11% from a year ago and up 8% from June 2008, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report (click here to read report).

July production of edible whole eggs was 144,386,000 lbs, up 8% from a year ago; liquid whites were 60,725,000 lbs, up 17%; and liquid yolks were 31,816,000 lbs, up 15%.

Inedible product from shell eggs broken in July totaled 20,207,000, up 10% from July 2007.

Shell eggs broken in July totaled 182,950,000 dozen, up 10% from July 2007 and up 9% from June 2008, the U.S.D.A. said.

Edible liquid product produced in the January-July period totaled 1,558,089,000 lbs, up 4% from the same period of the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 986,137,000 lbs, up 3% from a year ago; liquid whites were 373,636,000 lbs, up 5%; liquid yolks were 198,316,000, up 4%; and inedible products were 135,830,000, up 3%.

Shell eggs broken in the January-July period totaled 1,192,675,000 dozen, up 4% from a year ago.
