June egg, dairy, turkey, pork stocks up from 2008

WASHINGTON — Frozen stocks of eggs, cheese, butter, turkey and pork on June 30 were greater than year-earlier levels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Cold Storage report.

Total frozen egg stocks on June 30 were 21,595,000 lbs, down 1% from May but up 34% from June 2008. Stocks of egg whites were 2,955,000 lbs, up 1% from the previous month but down 3% from the previous year. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 1,136,000 lbs, up 4% from May and up 26% from the previous year. Whole and mixed egg stocks came in at 8,385,000 lbs, down 11% from May but up 2% from June 2008. Unclassified egg products totaled 9,119,000 lbs, up 10% from May and up 130% from a year ago.

Total natural cheese stocks were 971,429,000 lbs, up 1% from the previous month and up 8% from the previous year. Butter stocks were 266,298,000 lbs, up 5% from May and up 3% from June 2008.

Turkey stocks were 595,939,000 lbs, up 2% from May and up 6% from June 2008. Total chicken stocks were 658,499,000 lbs, up 3% from the previous month but down 14% from the previous year. Overall, total frozen poultry supplies were 1,259,998,000 lbs, up 2% from May but down 5% from June 2008, the U.S.D.A. said.

Total red meat supplies were 1,043,714,000 lbs, up 1% from May and up 6% from the previous year. Total frozen beef stocks were 434,568,000 lbs, up 4% from the previous month and up 2% from the previous year. Total frozen pork stocks totaled 578,792,000 lbs, down 1% from May 2009 but up 9% from the previous year. Frozen pork belly stocks were 76,421,000 lbs, down 3% from May but up 3% from June 2008.

Frozen vegetable stocks (excluding potatoes) were 1,560,926,000 lbs, down 1% from May but up 14% from last year.

Stocks of frozen french fries were 1,011,773,000 lbs, up 5% from May and up 7% from June 2008.

Stocks of all types of frozen fruit totaled 968,119,000 lbs, up 6% from May and up 12% from June 2008.

Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate were 1,485,635,000 lbs, up 2% from the previous month but down 2% from the previous year.

Fresh apples in regular and controlled storage totaled 860,873,000 lbs, down 41% from May but up 49% from June 2008.
