June egg product output down 3% from year ago

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in June was 218,504,000 lbs, down 3% from a year ago and down 7% from May 2008, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report (click here to read report).
June production of edible whole eggs was 137,180,000 lbs, down 4% from a year ago; liquid whites were 53,310,000 lbs, down 2%; and liquid yolks were 28,014,000 lbs, up 1%.
Inedible product from shell eggs broken in June totaled 18,680,000 lbs, down 1% from June 2007.
Shell eggs broken in June totaled 168,352,000 dozen, down 2% from June 2007 and down 5% from May 2008, the U.S.D.A. said.
Edible liquid product produced in the January–June period totaled 1,320,062,000 lbs, up 2% from the same period of the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 841,651,000 lbs, up 3% from a year ago; liquid whites were 311,911,000 lbs, up 2%; liquid yolks were 166,500,000 lbs, also up 2%; and inedible products were 115,790,000 lbs, also up 2%.
Shell eggs broken in the January–June period totaled 1,009,725,000 dozen, up 3% from a year ago.
