Wheat, corn stocks up from year ago, soybeans down

WASHINGTON — Wheat stored in all positions on Sept. 1 totaled 1,856,576,000 bus, up 8% from Sept. 1, 2007, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Grain Stocks report.

On-farm stocks of wheat were 635,000,000 bus, up 28% from a year ago, while off-farm stocks were 1,221,576,000 bus, down slightly. Indicated disappearance of wheat during the June-August period was 949 million bus, up 18% from the same period of last year, the U.S.D.A. said.

Durum stocks were 58,999,000 bus, down 16% from a year ago. Indicated disappearance during the June-August period was 34.2 million bus, up 51% from the same period a year ago.

Stocks of corn on Sept. 1 totaled 1,624,150,000 bus, up 25% from a year ago. Indicated disappearance of corn during the June-August period was 2,400 million bus, up 8% from last year.

Soybean stocks in all positions were 205,034,000 bus, down 64% from Sept. 1, 2007, the U.S.D.A. said. Indicated disappearance during the June-August period was 471 million bus, down 9% from last year.
