F.D.A. to hold public hearing on salt

WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration will hold a public hearing on policies related to salt and sodium in food.

The hearing will be held at 9 a.m. on Nov. 29 in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition’s Harvey W. Wiley Auditorium in College Park, Md.

The hearing will provide an opportunity to present the F.D.A.’s policies relating to salt and sodium in food and it will give the public a means to express their views on the subject as well. Additionally, the F.D.A. is open for public comment on a petition from the Center for Science in the Public Interest requesting the F.D.A. make regulatory changes to the status of salt, which would involve requiring limits on salt in processed foods and require health messages related to salt and sodium.
