RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CALIF. — Blue California has received notification from the Food and Drug Administration confirming the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status of Blue California’s L-TeaActive (L-tehanine) for use in a variety of food products. L-theanine is an amino acid found in green tea. Blue California, Rancho Santa Margarita, uses a proprietary manufacturing process to produce L-TeaActive, which is L-theanine standardized to 98%.

“Numerous clinical studies on green tea and L-theanine in particular suggest significant health benefits can be derived from the intake of this unique non-protein amino acid,” Blue California said. “Scientific evidence, for example, confirms L-theanine stimulates the production of alpha brain waves increasing mental and physical relaxation without drowsiness. Other studies show that a combination of L-theanine and caffeine may have a synergistic effect on cognitive function and mood.”
