WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration announced it has reopened the comment period for discussion on policies related to salt and sodium in food until Aug. 11.

The F.D.A. originally opened for comment following a petition from the Center for Science in the Public Interest requesting the F.D.A. make regulatory changes to the status of salt, which would involve requiring limits on salt in processed foods and require health messages related to salt and sodium. That comment period ended on March 28.
