Nonfat dry milk available for trade through The Seam

MEMPHIS, TENN. — Nonfat dry milk (N.D.M.) has been added to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s barter initiative of Commodity Credit Corp.-owned commodities for processed food for feeding assistance programs.

The move follows the announcement last year by the C.C.C. that it had reached agreement with The Seam, L.L.C. to offer N.D.M. on its on-line trading system beginning this month. The Seam is a technology-based company that has created and manages electronic trading platforms for physical agricultural commodities and process food.

Under the agreement, N.D.M. will be offered for cash purchase at various warehouse locations through The Seam’s system. Each offer will describe the quantity and quality of the N.D.M. at its stored location. The Agricultural Marketing Service of the U.S.D.A. will provide grade certificates for the N.D.M. as interested parties bid.
