Probiotic research grants announced

ALEXANDRIA, VA. — The Global Probiotics Council (G.P.C.), a group formed by Groupe Danone, Paris, and Yakult Honsha Co., Tokyo, is offering two $50,000 grants that will focus on probiotics research, specifically the role of probiotics and gastrointestinal microbiota in health and disease.

"Groupe Danone and Yakult Honsha Co. are committed to benefiting human health by advancing research on probiotics," said Sven Thormahlen, executive vice-president of research and development for Groupe Danone. "We established the G.P.C. to raise awareness of probiotics and their health benefits through science-based education."
