ORRVILLE, OHIO – Nate Schmid has been named president at Smith Dairy Products Company. He succeeds retiring president Ron Them, who had been with the company since 1974.

Mr. Schmid was previously senior manager of strategic initiatives at Baxter International, Inc., Chicago. He began his career with Innotec Corp., Zeeland, Mich., and he has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., and a master of business administration from the University of Michigan.

Mr. Schmid’s great-grandfather John J. Schmid began Smith Dairy in 1909 with his brother Peter.

Smith Dairy manufactures Smith’s milk, ice cream, sour cream, dip and cottage cheese and Ruggles ice cream.
