DEERFIELD, ILL. — Capol GmbH, an Elmshorn, Germany-based unit of Freudenberg Chemical Specialities Business Group, has acquired Colarôme Inc. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Headquartered in Hubert, Canada, Colarôme provides natural food additives and holds patents that enable the manufacture of a line of natural pigments. In addition to colorings, the company produces flavorings and natural vanilla extracts.
The transaction includes Colarôme’s manufacturing plant in Canada.

“Additives for the food industry are an attractive market segment in the long term,” said Hanno D. Wentzler, president and chief executive officer of Freudenberg Chemical Specialities. “Having Colarôme now in our portfolio, we will be able to strategically develop this business segment. Both Capol and Colarôme have very similar business models, so we expect a swift integration into Capol.”
Capol and Colarôme are known for their work in the confectionery market. Capol makes products for the confectionery industry that require surface treatment, including supplying anti-sticking agents for gums and jellies, as well as glazes and polishing agents for sugar dragees and chocolate-coated centers.
