MILFORD, CONN. — John C. Scott has joined Subway restaurants’ global team as vice-president of global sustainability and corporate social responsibility (C.S.R.). In this role, Mr. Scott will “oversee the global agenda for an integrated sustainability and C.S.R. program,” the company said.

Mr. Scott was most recently chief supply chain officer for The Chef’s Warehouse, a premier distributor of specialty food products. “I am pleased to be joining Subway and a team that has made great strides to build the company’s sustainable and responsible practices,” Mr. Scott said. “Subway is in a strong position to build upon the investments already made, and I look forward to helping the company continue to have a positive impact on our customers, franchisees, supply chain and environment.”

In the past few years, Subway has increased its focus on sustainability, committing to improve its food and operations while minimizing its impact on the environment. The company partners with more than 150 U.S. farmers, including several from multi-generational farming families, to supply fresh ingredients for its restaurants, Subway said. In 2016, the company achieved its goal of only serving chicken raised without antibiotics in the United States. The company also began listing calories on menu panels in April 2016, two years before U.S. Food and Drug Administration requirements. In December 2015, Subway committed to only use cage-free eggs in its restaurants in the United States and Canada by 2025.
