KANSAS CITY — Bold, spicy flavors are trending in new snack launches, from hot jalapeño chips to chile lime popcorn to spicy queso popped corn crisps.
PepsiCo, Inc.’s Frito-Lay division is spicing up the snack aisle with new Doritos Blaze, featuring a “complex flavor and heat that builds as you crunch,” the company said. The chips are made with jalapeño, tomato, onion and garlic powders along with other spices.

“Doritos Blaze is truly a first-of-its-kind snack with a robust flavor that’s as bold as the heat in every bite,” said Ryan Matiyow, senior director of marketing for Frito-Lay North America. “We know our heat-seeking fans will enjoy this intense snacking experience all year long.”
Popcorn gets the heat treatment in Conagra Brands, Inc.’s new Angie’s Boomchickapop Chile Lime popcorn. The new flavor, featuring “a burst of citrus with a little heat and zing,” features chile lime seasoning, chile pepper, paprika and other spices, the company said.
Fiery flavor also is featured in BFY Brands’ new PopCorners air popped corn snacks variety. Spicy Queso PopCorners are gluten-free and made with Non-GMO Project verified corn and a zesty medley of red and black peppercorns.
Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn, which recently underwent a brand refresh including the addition of new flavors, offers several piquant popcorn varieties, such as caramel chipotle and spicy nacho cheddar.
