KANSAS CITY — New non-dairy frozen desserts are debuting in droves in the ice cream aisle. The dairy-free frozen dessert category is showing a “definitive increase” despite declines in the overall ice cream and frozen desserts segment, according to market research firm Packaged Facts.

“These non-dairy frozen desserts include plant-based ice cream products that use milk from coconuts, almonds, cashews, bananas, avocados, etc., as alternatives to dairy milk,” Packaged Facts said. “Of course, there have been soy and rice-based frozen desserts on the market for years. But just as in the fluid milk market, these have lost ground to the newer arrivals.”
Among the new arrivals is Nestle’s Häagen-Dazs non-dairy offerings, available in four varieties: chocolate salted fudge truffle, peanut butter chocolate fudge, mocha chocolate cookie and coconut caramel.
Unilever’s Ben & Jerry’s brand also has expanded its vegan frozen dessert line with two new flavors: Peanut Butter Half Baked and Cinnamon Buns.
Halo Top Creamery is launching seven new non-dairy frozen dessert pints, including two new flavors — toasted coconut and vanilla maple — alongside five vegan versions of products from its original line: pancakes and waffles, birthday cake, candy bar, chocolate almond crunch and chocolate chip cookie dough.
Snow Monkey is releasing three new flavors of its Non-GMO Project verified dairy-free frozen treats: Matcha green tea, passion fruit and cinnamon. The Superfood Ice Treats contain between 130 and 135 calories and 7 grams of protein per serving, are made with plant-based ingredients and are free from eight major allergens.
