KANSAS CITY — Restaurants are beefing up their burger offerings with new twists on the fast-food staple.

Sonic Drive-In is offering a better-for-you burger featuring a patty blended with 100% beef, mushrooms and seasonings. The drive-in chain’s new Signature Slingers burgers start at less than 350 calories and are available in two varieties. The Classic Signature Slingers Cheeseburger is topped with lettuce, tomato, diced onions, dill pickle slices, mayo and melted American cheese and is served on a brioche bun. The Bacon Melt Signature Slinger features bacon, layers of melted cheese and mayo all served on a brioche bun.

Mushrooms also play a key role in Wendy’s new burger. The new Smoky Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger features smoky, sautéed portabella mushrooms, melted asiago cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, crunchy fried onions and smoky mushroom aioli atop a quarter-pound beef patty served on a toasted bun.
Perkins is launching a whole collection of Signature Burgers, featuring five new sandwiches. The chain’s new Frisco Burger features two Angus beef patties, crispy onion rings, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onions, pickles and Thousand Island dressing on grilled Parmesan sourdough bread. The A1 BBQ Bacon Burger is topped with a blend of A1 steak sauce and barbecue sauce, caramelized onions, pepper jack cheese, black pepper bacon and crispy fried onions. The Sweet ‘N Spicy Sriracha Burger features candied jalapeños, poblano queso, spicy sriracha bacon, cheddar cheese, smashed tater tots, lettuce, tomato, pickles and red onions. The new Breakfast Burger contains crispy seasoned hash browns, maple bacon, cheddar cheese and a fried egg. Finally, the Classic Cheeseburger is topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onions, pickles and Perkins signature sauce.
