The Pet Food Institute (PFI) has selected Dana Brooks as the organization’s new president and chief executive office. PFI is the voice of U.S. pet food and treat makers and reports that its members manufacture 98% of the dog and cat food and treat products in the U.S.

Ms. Brooks succeeded Dr. Cathleen Enright who is serving as past president until she retires on June 30, 2018. As PFI’s new president, Ms. Brooks brings more than 30 years of experience across the food and agricultural industries, including leadership roles in federal and regulatory outreach.

“Long and healthy lives for dogs and cats start with the production of safe pet food,” Ms. Brooks said. “I welcome the opportunity to work with PFI members in their commitment to continuous improvement in safe manufacturing practices and advocating for the regulations and legislation that support this.”

Ms. Brooks most recently served as the senior director of government affairs for Land O’Lakes, Inc., where she managed state affairs and industry relations. Prior to joining Land O’Lakes, Ms. Brooks held the positions of corporate advisor of government affairs for Elanco Animal Health and senior vice president of government relations for the National Milk Products Federation.

“Dana brings extensive knowledge and leadership in the fields of food, feed and agriculture,” said Alan Bostick, president and CEO of Sunshine Mills, Inc., and chairman of the PFI Board of Directors. “PFI welcomes her advocacy expertise and vision in promoting a bright future for the production of safe and nutritious food for America’s dogs and cats.”

Ms. Brooks holds a master’s degree in Agribusiness from Kansas State University and a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from the University of Arkansas. She grew up on a family farm in Arkansas.

PFI advocates for legislation, regulations and technologies that support the domestic manufacture and global distribution of safe, quality pet food. PFI promotes food safety innovation in manufacturing and handling practices, and highlights issues impacting pet food makers, their suppliers and distributors, pet owners and other relevant stakeholders.
