SEYMOUR, IND. — Rose Acre Farms has issued a voluntary recall of 206,749,248 eggs that may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. The eggs were distributed from the farm in Hyde Count, N.C., to retail stores and restaurants in Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Twenty-two illness have been reported to date.

The affected eggs feature plant number P-1065 with the Julian date range of 011 through date of 102 printed on the carton or package. The eggs are sold under multiple brand names, including Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak, Food Lion, Glenview, Great Value, Nelms, and Sunshine Farms.

The recall is a result of illnesses reported on the East coast, which led to an investigation by the Food and Drug Administration. The Hyde County farm produces 2.3 million eggs a day. The facility has 3 million laying hens with a U.S. Department of Agriculture inspector on site daily.

Salmonella Braenderup may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella Braenderup may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
