KANSAS CITY — Innovation is increasing in the condiment category, and multiple mainstay brands are expanding from their signature sauces into new segments of the category.

The Kraft Heinz Co.’s Heinz brand, traditionally known for its ketchup, is moving into mayonnaise with the launch of new Heinz Real Mayonnaise. Made with 100% cage-free eggs, the mayonnaise has a creamy texture that’s “crafted to taste more like homemade,” the company said.

Making the opposite move, Unilever P.L.C.’s Hellmann’s brand, known for its mayonnaise, is entering the ketchup category with new Hellman’s Real Ketchup. The condiment contains six ingredients: tomato puree, honey, white wine vinegar, spices, onion powder and salt.

Primal Kitchen is entering the vegan market with its new Vegan Ranch Dressing made with Avocado Oil. Made with avocado oil, apple cider vinegar and organic herbs such as onion powder, garlic powder, parsley and dill, the dressing is dairy-free, egg-free, sugar-free, certified gluten-free, Whole30-approved and paleo- and keto-friendly.
