SILVER SPRING, MD. — Mercaris, which offers market-based tools, including data analysis and online trading, for buyers of organic and other non-G.M.O. grains and oilseeds, has become a Certified B Corporation.

Certified B Corporations meet high standards for social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. The companies also seek to solve social and environmental problems.

Mercaris attained the certification April 26. The process required Mercaris to be subject to an assessment of ongoing operation. The company said the process improved and institutionalized the way it “engages with stakeholders, manages its day-to-day operations and communicates and interacts with customers.”

Currently, 2,482 corporations in over 50 countries and spanning 130 industries are registered as B Corps.
