SEATTLE — As part of its recently announced plan to double down on cold beverages to spark afternoon sales, Starbucks is launching two new layered Frappuccino varieties. Both blended beverages feature a new sweet cold brew whipped cream that is infused with cold brew coffee, dark caramel sauce and white chocolate mocha sauce.
“We know that the afternoon customer is looking for refreshment, and they are really interested in cold brew, so the new offering that we’ll have in the product line is around cold brew,” said Rosalind Gates Brewer, chief operating officer and group president of Americas, during an April 26 earnings call. She also referred to the new Frappuccinos as a “special, up-level, delicious afternoon treat.”
The Ultra Caramel Frappuccino features sweet cold brew whipped cream and dark caramel sauce layered with a dark caramel coffee Frappuccino made with dark caramel sauce, Frappuccino Roast coffee and milk all blended with ice. The blended beverage is then finished with a sweet cold brew whipped cream topping and a swirl of dark caramel drizzle.
“Right away, you taste something different with the sweet cold brew whipped cream,” said Debbie Antonio, senior manager for Starbucks R.&D. “Sip after sip, you get the blended coffee and the lighter whip with the dark caramel threaded all the way through.”
The new Triple Mocha Frappuccino starts with a layer of sweet cold brew whipped cream atop a layer of dark mocha sauce topped with a mocha Frappuccino made with mocha sauce, Frappuccino Roast coffee and milk blended with ice. The beverage’s final layer features sweet cold brew whipped cream and a swirl of dark mocha drizzle.
“You can have mocha in every sip with Triple Mocha Frappuccino,” Ms. Antonio said. “You get both white chocolate and rich dark mocha, layered with cold brew whipped cream for contrast, texture.”
The new cold brew whipped cream topping also may be added to any cold or hot Starbucks beverage for 50c. The topping and the two new Frappuccinos will become permanent menu items.
