LOS ANGELES — Strand Equity, a growth equity firm focused on consumer brands, has invested in Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, manufacturers of made-from-scratch and vegan ice cream. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Van Leeuwen produces both dairy-based and vegan ice cream products. Its traditional ice cream is made using ingredients such as fresh milk and cream, organic egg yolks and pure cane sugar. All add-ins are made in-house, and its fruit, nut and chocolate inclusions are sourced from purveyors including Michel Cluizel Chocolate, Askinosie Chocolate and Kettl Matcha. Van Leeuwen’s vegan offerings are made with a blend of cashews, coconut and cocoa butter.

“We created Van Leeuwen because people deserve to eat ice cream made with extraordinary ingredients and no unnecessary ones,” said Ben Van Leeuwen, co-founder and co-chief executive officer of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. “Every Piedmont hazelnut we caramelize, every Askinosie chocolate chip we mix in, every raw cashew we soak and blend into milk, is done to achieve that pivotal moment of serving our customer and witnessing the pure happiness that an extraordinary food experience provides. This partnership with our community is why we do what we do.”

Van Leeuwen Ice CreamFounded in 2008, Van Leeuwen manufactures its ice cream and frozen desserts from its facility in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The company operates 13 scoop shops and 6 trucks in New York and Los Angeles and also sells its ice cream pints in more than 700 retailers nationwide, including at Whole Foods Market and Fairway.

“After a decade building our brand, obsessing over our product and holding true to our vision, it is equal parts amazing and encouraging to know that our hard work is appreciated by our wonderful new partners at Strand Equity,” said Pete Van Leeuwen, co-founder and co-c.e.o. of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. “We are excited for them to join our team and look forward to sharing the common culture and Van Leeuwen spirit that we have cultivated over the years.”

Strand Equity partners with emerging brands to scale their businesses through its marketing and operational knowledge as well as its network of industry relationships, the company said.
