NEW YORK — Joe Serventi has been elevated to global chief executive officer of Hippeas, maker of organic chickpea puff snacks. Mr. Serventi was previously general manager for the company, a role he has held since joining Hippeas in March 2017. Hippeas has experienced triple-digit growth over the past year, the company said.
“When Joe joined Hippeas last year, we knew he would play a key role in driving the brand forward, rapidly increasing distribution and building out an industry leading team,” said Livio Bisterzo, founder of Hippeas. “His strategic leadership and brand building expertise has helped the U.S. business achieve incredible success over the past 18 months. Joe has proven he can lead the Hippeas brand, and his promotion to global c.e.o. is a natural progression. I am very excited to see him help Hippeas and the entire team reach its full potential in the snack food category. I have the ultimate confidence that Hippeas can be a $100 million brand in the next three years.”
Prior to joining Hippeas, Mr. Serventi was executive vice-president at barkTHINS, which was acquired by the Hershey Co. Before that, he was vice-president of corporate development at Pirate Brands before it was acquired by B&G Foods. Mr. Serventi began his career at Glaceau, owner of Vitaminwater and Smartwater, where he spent 10 years as director of business development before the company was acquired by the Coca-Cola Co.
“I have seen this company go from a disruptive start-up to a fierce and fast-growing force within the industry,” Mr. Serventi said. “Hippeas has the potential to become a household name. Since we launched, Hippeas has seen incredible velocity growth and expansion, and I’m looking forward to taking the brand to the next level.”
Mr. Serventi succeeds Mr. Bisterzo as c.e.o. of Hippeas. Mr. Bisterzo has transitioned to chairman for the company and will continue to oversee brand marketing, innovation and the company’s charitable work.
