OMAHA — ConAgra Foods, Inc. said it is eliminating about 40 jobs at its Lincoln Snacks plant, which makes popcorn snacks, including Crunch ‘n Munch, Fiddle Faddle and Poppycock. The decision will reduce the plant’s 109 positions to about 71 over the next few months, said Kate Thomas, manager of communication and external relations for ConAgra.
Ms. Thomas cited “a decline in demand for the snack foods made there.”
“While we certainly regret having to make decisions such as this, business conditions require us to be as efficient as possible,” she said. “Crunch ‘n Munch, Fiddle Faddle and Poppycock are among the snacks the Lincoln plant makes.”
Crunch ‘n consists of caramel-coated popcorn and peanuts, while Fiddle Faddle contains popcorn and peanuts covered in either a caramel glaze or a butter toffee glaze. The original variety of Poppycock contains popcorn, almonds and pecans covered in a candy/caramel glaze.ConAgra acquired Lincoln Snacks from Ubiquity Brands in September 2007 for about $50 million, saying the company’s brands aligned with ConAgra Foods’ strategy of “optimizing its portfolio to continue sustainable, profitable growth.”
