Wilbur-Ellis Feed LLC and Diversified Ingredients Inc. have been sentenced by a federal judge in St. Louis to pay a combined $7 million for shipping misbranded ingredients, including those containing ground-up poultry feathers, to pet food processors in 2013 and 2014. Wilbur-Ellis, based in San Francisco, pled guilty to the misdemeanor charges in April, and Diversified Ingredients pled guilty in July.

According to the Associated Press, while these ingredients were sold to and unknowingly used by pet food processors in their products, federal prosecutors say the misbranded ingredients posed no health threats to pets that consumed them.
