KANSAS CITY — Bigger is better in recent menu innovation, as restaurants offer customers more bang for their buck with more meat, bigger biscuits or double the dairy.

McDonald’s is stacking on the sausage and the cheese in its new Triple Breakfast Stacks. The breakfast sandwiches feature two slices of American cheese between two sausage patties, topped with bacon and an egg and served on an English muffin, biscuit or McGriddles cakes.

Bigger biscuits are barreling onto Bob Evans Restaurants menus. The chain’s new Biscuit Bowls feature oversized versions of its signature biscuits that are four times the size of a traditional biscuit, Bob Evans said. Varieties include the Sausage Gravy Biscuit Bowl, the Salsa Scramble Biscuit Bowl and the Sriracha Bacon Biscuit Bowl.

Sonic doubles down on cheddar cheese in its new Quarter Pound Double Stack Cheeseburger. The sandwich, served on a toasted brioche bun, features shredded cheddar cheese and a warm cheddar cheese sauce layered between two 100% beef patties all topped with mustard, mayo, dill pickles and grilled onions.

“Sometimes a little something extra goes a long way." — Scott Uehlein, Sonic

“Sometimes a little something extra goes a long way, especially when it comes to a flavor profile that is extra savory, juicy and melty,” said Scott Uehlein, vice-president of product innovation and development for Sonic. “We took a classic cheeseburger and elevated what makes it great — adding double the cheese in the middle, a second juicy patty and amped-up burger toppings — to create a new Sonic experience that is truly irresistible.”

Del Taco is dishing out three times the meat in its new menu item, the Epic Triple Meat Burrito. The hefty handheld is loaded with grilled carne asada steak, grilled chicken, bacon, pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream and is wrapped in a warm, oversized flour tortilla.

“We take meat seriously at Del Taco, so when it comes to our new Epic Triple Meat Burrito, we’re not skimping on the good stuff. Instead, we’re tripling it,” said Barry Westrum, chief marketing officer for Del Taco. “This product delivers more meat than any other large Mexican quick-service restaurant’s premium burrito line. We’re proud to take it to the next level by grilling our carne asada and marinated chicken right in our restaurants each and every day, ensuring that when it comes to delivering unmatched flavor, we’re doing justice to the quality and size of the burrito.”
