PORTLAND, ORE. — Wild Friends Foods, maker of clean label nut and seed butters, has closed a $3.5 million round of Series Seed funding led by Cambridge Companies SPG.

“Wild Friends has created impressive enterprise value very efficiently from a capital use standpoint, established a clear relationship with a passionate and dedicated core customer base and executed on their mission of innovation and growth,” said Filipp Chebotarev, chief operating officer of Cambridge Companies SPG. “We were drawn to Wild Friends due to the company's resonance with millennial consumers.”

Founded in 2011, Wild Friends offers a variety of Non-GMO Project verified almond butters, peanut butters, sunflower butters, collagen nut butters and “super butters,” which contain honey, chia and flax. Recently, the company launched a line of oats and nut butter cups, featuring a base of rolled oats, chia and flax with the addition of a single-serve nut butter packet. Available in Whole Foods Market, Sprouts and Publix stores, the oats and nut butter cups come in four flavors: almond cashew, peanut cashew, almond cranberry and peanut blueberry.

Additionally, Wild Friends recently added two General Mills veterans to its senior leadership team. Beth Hanson, previously senior development manager for 301 INC at General Mills, has joined Wild Friends Foods seasonal nut buttersWild Friends as vice-president of sales. Christina McCalla, former marketing manager for Annie’s, has been named director of marketing for Wild Friends.

Other participants in the funding round include Katjesgreenfood, Echo Capital, business strategist Tony Robbins, former Boulder Brands c.e.o. Steve Hughes, Schmidt’s Naturals co-founder Jaime Schmidt and her partner Chris Cantino.
