WASHINGTON — The National Restaurant Association is conducting a survey of industry professionals to determine how a tentative Food and Drug Administration decision to ban partially hydrogenated oils would affect how the restaurant industry conducts business.

The Washington-based association said it would use the information collected through the survey to ensure its comments to the F.D.A. appropriately reflect industry challenges in eliminating partially hydrogenated oils and artificial trans fat from menu options. The N.R.A. survey will be open through Dec. 11 and available at svy.mk/1df8jkR.

The F.D.A. in the Nov. 8Federal Register proposed a rule to eliminate the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status of partially hydrogenated oils, which produce artificial trans fats in products. The F.D.A. said it will accept comments on its rule proposal until Jan. 7. The N.R.A. has asked for a 60-day extension.
