OAKBROOK TERRACE, ILL. — McCain Foods USA Inc., a business unit of McCain Foods Ltd., is expanding its french fry processing plant in Othello, Wash. The $300 million investment will include a battered and conventional fry processing line that will double the plant’s production.

“This investment signals confidence in Washington, its potato growing community and its skilled workforce availability,” said Jeff DeLapp, president of North America for McCain Foods. “It quickly follows other McCain capacity investments, helping to meet the continued increasing demand for McCain products and builds toward a strong, sustainable future in manufacturing and agriculture.”

The company expects the expansion to be completed in early 2021.

This past December McCain Foods Ltd., which is based in Toronto, announced $75 million worth of infrastructure investments at its manufacturing plants in Portage la Prairie and Carberry, Man. At Portage la Prairie, the company is installing a potato sorting system as well as processing and packaging equipment. At Carberry, the company is installing auto sampling equipment, a blanching system and improved heating and refrigeration systems.
