ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — Nature’s Touch Frozen Foods (West), Inc. has issued a voluntary recall on its Signature Select Avocado Chunks due to potential listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The company said it was informed by the Food and Drug Administration that a routine sampling inspection found a positive result for listeria in one sample bag of the product. Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in elderly people, young children and other individuals with a weakened immune system. Healthy individuals typically only suffer short-term symptoms, though a listeria infection can cause miscarriages or stillbirths among pregnant women.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the recalled product, which has been distributed in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, Texas and Utah. The recalled Signature Select Frozen Avocado Chunks were distributed at Albertsons, Safeway, Safeway Community Markets, Carrs-Safeway, Eagle, Lucky, Pak N Save, Pavilions and Vons.

Customers who have purchased Signature Select Frozen Avocado Chunks with a best before date of Oct. 11, 2020, at any of the banner stores in the 15 states listed above should discard the product or return it for a full refund, the company said.
